Special Feature: Founder’s Post
Recently, I was on a boat tour with many other people. People I have never met. People from many different countries and backgrounds. My dinner mates happened to be from French Polynesia. We somehow got onto the conversation of benefits differences in the United States and other countries. My travel companions were completely shocked by hearing about the benefits packages that I provided my previous company’s employees.
My dinner mates had the understanding that all employees in the United States lack basic benefits. I explained that while it is not a federally mandated system of benefits, good companies, ethical companies provide their employees with great benefits packages. My new French friends were shocked. They asked me, “Why do you provide different benefits for your employees than your country requires?” My answer quite simply was: “To attract the best talent.”
I am the child of a small business owner. In fact, I am 3rd generation American Small Business Owner. My Father gave his employees the best benefits he could afford. I too turned profits over to the people making them to attract the best talent. Even with PostBack, while we are in our infancy and not making big dollars, I strive to turn over what we have to the amazing talent that brings you this platform.
Invest in People and They’ll Invest in You
I know this is not the American way completely. However, this is how I was raised. Take care of the people who take care of you. Even in business. My staff help me make my business profitable so why wouldn’t I share that with them? This creates a system of happy employees. They are loyal. They know they are part of a work family.
So, my French friends, I know that our country does not mandate good benefits systems. However, a good company, an ethical company, will offer what they can. Why? Because we want the best talent. Businesses want happy employees. We want people who do an excellent job to help the company. We want the best! Give the Best, Get the Best. That is my American Way!
