Treat Our Staff With Kindness

Sign of the times?

Lately, I have been noticing more signs in local establishments stating, “Please treat our staff with kindness.” You see these signs more these days as they are a side effect of angry people abusing their employees. These reminders are important to convey to others that the person behind the counter is human too. Unfortunately, people seem to have forgotten that kindness rules. Somewhere in between lockdowns from Covid and fear of the world, viruses, invasion, and general crime we have forgotten to treat others the way we would want to be treated.

In part, this is why we created PostBack. We wanted to give the business world a safe place to vent and let go of frustration without incriminating yourself. Yes, we believe in treating customers kindly. Yes, the customer should be right, most of the time. However, if a customer is abusive to you, you should not have to post a sign reminding them that you are human and your staff are as well. You should not have to demand to be treated with respect in dignity simply because you work in service.

You should have a safe place to let that emotion go. A place to tell your side of the story and move on. A place to tell that person that they are a 1-star customer. However, people need to be reminded that they should be kind. No one should be yelled at in the workplace. No one should feel unsafe while trying to provide a service. People need to treat everyone with respect and kindness no matter if they are a client or a provider.
